Practical guides /
1. Understand image dimensions /
Width × height describes the pixel grid, not the download size. A 300 × 400 image is portrait; 600 × 200 is wide. These are examples, not official application requirements. Copy both numbers from your form before processing.
If the source and target have different proportions, choose Crop to fill and move the framing sliders until the required area is visible. Choose Fit to keep the entire image; white margins may appear. Neither option stretches the picture. Portals may disallow margins, so check the instructions.
If a form specifies centimetres and a required DPI, pixels = centimetres ÷ 2.54 × DPI. For example, 3.5 cm at 300 DPI is about 413 pixels. FormFit does not set custom DPI metadata. Follow the portal’s pixel and metadata instructions; the formula alone is not proof of acceptance.
2. Meet a file-size limit / KB
Pixels and bytes measure different things. Two equally sized photos can have very different file sizes because detail, texture and compression differ. This tool uses decimal KB: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. Some portals use 1,024 bytes per KB, also called KiB. A 100 KB limit here means no more than 100,000 bytes.
JPEG suits photos; PNG preserves sharp edges but can be larger. WebP can be compact, but use it only if your portal accepts it. Converting a transparent image here places it on white. Compression may soften details: always inspect the final output.
The tool tries a bounded set of quality settings and stops rather than silently changing your dimensions. It does not claim to find the theoretical smallest file. A portal with a minimum size also needs a manual minimum-size check; this tool enforces a maximum only.
3. Keep a signature legible /
Start with a well-lit scan or a steady, straight photo of your real signature. Use the paper and ink specified by the form. Avoid shadows, blur and reflections before editing; compression cannot restore missing strokes.
Signature mode starts with Fit so that tails and dots remain visible. Rotate until the baseline is level. To remove extra paper, choose Crop and gently increase zoom, leaving a little space around every stroke. Use a wide output only when your form requests it.
Do not use a sensitive signature in public tutorials. Use a clearly marked practice scribble instead. Keep your downloaded signature in a safe place and remove copies you no longer need.
